Dr. Taylor R. Dunphy is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in Sports Medicine. He is dedicated to caring for athletes and active individuals of all ages and has served as a team physician for the University of Southern California, providing medical care for USC’s football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and track programs.
Dr. Dunphy is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. He believes the best outcomes are achieved through collaboration and thoughtful decision-making, with surgery considered only when truly necessary. Each treatment plan is individualized and designed to help patients safely return to their desired level of activity.
His practice focuses on minimally invasive and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. Dr. Dunphy utilizes cutting-edge, research-supported techniques and has advanced expertise in ACL, meniscus, and rotator cuff repair. He specializes in complex and revision procedures, including revision ACL and rotator cuff surgery, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, shoulder stabilization, cartilage restoration, and fracture care involving the knee and shoulder. He is also a member of the trauma team at Hoag Hospital.
Dr. Dunphy has a strong interest in advancing orthopedic research and modern treatment techniques. His work has been presented at national and international conferences and published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including The American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Dunphy earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed his undergraduate education, orthopedic surgery residency, and sports medicine fellowship at the University of Southern California. Having trained extensively in Southern California, he understands the active lifestyles of the patients he serves.
He lives in Orange County with his wife and two sons and enjoys spending time outdoors skiing, hiking, sailing, and playing tennis and golf. Dr. Dunphy is proud to work with the local community and has served as team physician for Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar High Schools. He is also an orthopedic provider for the NFL Total Wellness Program.
